An explosion at a bar in Madrid’s Vallecas neighborhood on Saturday injured 25 people, with three of them in serious condition. The blast caused significant damage, gutting the premises and partially collapsing the ceiling. Emergency services, including firefighters, police, and medical teams, quickly arrived at the scene to clear debris and provide aid.
Cause of the Blast Under Investigation
While Spanish media outlets have reported that a gas leak may have triggered the explosion, Madrid town hall official Inmaculada Sanz stated that it is “too early to venture what may have been the cause.” Emergency services have ruled out the possibility of additional victims being trapped under the rubble. Sniffer dogs and drones were deployed to assist with the ongoing response efforts.
Community Impact and Immediate Aftermath
The blast caused “absolute chaos” for witnesses, with residents from nine homes in the destabilized building having to be temporarily relocated. The immediate area was swarmed with first responders, as doors were ripped from their hinges and glass and bricks were scattered across the street.
