Guitar Prasanna to Mesmerize Dubai with a Double Concert
Musician Guitar Prasanna is set to perform a unique double concert in Dubai on September 20, demonstrating his ability to effortlessly bridge two very different genres of music. In the first concert, he will perform traditional Carnatic classical pieces, a genre he has pioneered on the guitar. For the second concert, he will shift to popular Indian film music, showcasing his versatility and mastery of the instrument. This event, part of his “One Man, One Guitar, Many Worlds” series, is particularly special as it marks his first Carnatic performance in the city.
The Making of a Musical Polyglot
From a young age, Prasanna was drawn to the guitar, and as he grew, he made it his mission to explore its full potential beyond a single style. He believes the guitar is a versatile instrument capable of expressing various genres, from Carnatic to jazz, hard rock, and Western classical. His journey led him to master multiple styles at institutions like Berklee College of Music, not just to pioneer a new style, but to explore the limitless ocean of music. This approach, which he learned from maestro Ilaiyaraaja, teaches that different influences can coexist to create a unique musical identity.
A Legacy of Mentorship and Inspiration
Beyond his own performances, Prasanna is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of musicians. He founded the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music and takes great pride in the achievements of his students, such as Maya Neelakantan, who impressed the judges on America’s Got Talent. He encourages his students to be open, explore freely, and never feel confined by a single genre. This philosophy of embracing the vastness of music is the core message he hopes to share with his Dubai audience.
